Have You Actually Forgotten Your Why?

Why do you do anything?

What is the “why” behind your massive to-do list?

(You have one, because so do I!)

Lately, I have been obsessed with why. It’s easy to say yes or no to something, or fly down rabbit holes. We get excited at the prospect initially, but after getting bogged down with details or getting distracted by everything else, we can lose our why. The why is what attracted us in the first place, so it’s vital to our own personal success and fulfillment.

Have you forgotten why you blog? Why you started your own business? Why you do anything? In this vlog, I share examples of what happens when you forget your why and how to think about moving past it by @faithfulsocial

Today, I share a vlog about an instance where I asked someone why they chose to do something and they couldn’t remember. Here are my thoughts on that.

I’m all for finishing what you started, but I am more about paying attention to what makes sense. Listen to your gut. If you don’t know how, get quiet and listen. I’m reading a book called ReWork by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson. I underline, and star so many great tips, like this one, which totally relates to what we’re talking about:

Ever find yourself working on something without knowing exactly why? Someone just told you to do it. It’s pretty common, actually. That’s why it’s important to ask why you’re working on _____. What is this for? Who benefits? What’s the motivation behind it? Knowing the answers to these questions will help you better understand the work itself.

So tell me, what are you working on? Why are you doing it? What’s the motivation? If you can’t answer those questions anymore, consider taking a personal inventory and remembering your why, or maybe rethinking your strategy. If it’s the latter, I pinky promise it will be ok. I do it all the time.

Have you signed up for my VIP List? I am committing to sending out social media and blogging tips every week to people signed up to my list. We’re going to become real besties. These aren’t just tips culled from this blog, they’re exclusive just to this list. I would love to see you there.

Sorry, Not Sorry

It’s Thursday and that means, another Thoughts on Thursday vlog linkup with my dear friend Jen from JVKom Chronicles. I was going to chat about other things as you’ll see.

Do you say sorry too much? Not enough, or don't know when? I am sure this affects relationships, especially marriages because it has for me. Check out the vlog for more thoughts on apologies and how powerful they are for you and your relationships. @faithfulsocial

So let’s get to it.

I should add though, that it’s important to be humble. Humility always wins. Always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially when things get heated. But if you turn a corner and someone bumps into you, don’t just give a sorry away. That implies you did something wrong. Be intentional about what you are sorry for and what you don’t make excuses for. In this example, “excuse me” works, and you don’t walk away having given your subconscious and self esteem a ding. Trust me, that’s what happens. Then, like weeds you’re sorrying all over the place. STAHP it. <– tough love.

So here’s what I’d like to try today, share with me on social media via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook on my page, what have you, instances of where you say sorry, but probably shouldn’t. For my extremists (like me) out there, shout out moments when you should have been sorry, but were too stubborn to say it, let’s use #sorrynotsorry. This should be fun!

In the meantime, be #faithfullysocial. See you next week!

Why You’ll Never Succeed at Being Perfect

Why You'll Never Succeed at Being Perfect, a new vlog post with some social media info by @fillpraycloset

Welcome to my living room! Changing it up to see if you’re paying attention. So much has happened in the last couple of weeks and I learned a lot. Mostly, that I’ll never succeed at being perfect. Have a watch and I’ll see you after the vlog.

As promised, here’s the info that I talked about, you know in those “show notes!”

As a community lead for The SITS Girls, I get to host Twitter chats and guest post for them. The first set of twitter chats I’m doing will take place April 11th at 10AM EDT. We’ll be using the #SITSBlogging  hashtag for “Saturday Sharefest”. Here’s a link to the latest link up so you can see what I mean (and realize how scary and crazy this thing is for me? Yeah!) Bloggers share their favorite post and we all jump on Twitter and chat about it. The next twitter chat is on Monday evening April 13th at 8PM using that same hashtag. I’ll be talking about that one blog nut you’ve yet to crack!

I’ve never hosted a twitter chat ever, so of course it makes total sense to host my first one with an account that has 40,019 followers <— no, I did not make up that number.

This will coincide with a post that I am writing about optimizing your time on social media going live on their site on Tuesday, April 14th. Talk about huge right? Huge.

Stay tuned for a teaser post on Tuesday where I’ll share even more social media tips with you guys that I didn’t share on SITS.

I applied on a whim to be a community lead for this network, I never thought I would get picked. To be completely honest, I forgot I signed up – that’s how little of a chance I thought I had. My mastermind ladies will tell you, I sign up for everything. Everything. I cast a wide net, so who can keep up, right? When I received the email, I almost choked on my new favorite tea, which is a Peach Ginger Matcha, by the way.

This is what I’m talking about. You’re never going to be ready, you’re never going to be perfect. In fact, I was totally set on editing this video and getting rid of the “Peace out” part. I thought, that’s not professional, that’s not going to get you clients, that’s not…and then I thought, but that’s me. I’m serious when I need to be and playful, BFF when I need to be. I know the difference. So, play on baby, play on.

Just get out there, apply for everything and see what happens. You may be completely blown away at what comes back. You only know what you know right now. That will change because you want it to.

Take this example, I’m totally legit now that Taye Diggs follows me on Twitter. I think this means I made it, right?

So does this mean I made it?! Am I big time now?! 󾔗 Come on, I know he has people that follow for him, but it made me chuckle 󾌴. #celebrity

Why You'll Never Succeed at Being Perfect, a new vlog post with some social media info by @fillpraycloset

Show up for Yourself

Do you show up for yourself?

Show up for Yourself. Even when you're exhausted and you can't take another step, always show up for you. A vlog in where I share how I show up for myself and am working on implementing blogging productivity hacks and social media tips to keep my day more streamlined by @faithfulsocial

Another week, another vlog link up. I am loving these, aren’t you? This week has been rough. I won’t lie, work is crazy and my allergies are at an all time high. I even used my asthma pump twice this week. I could have easily bowed out of the link up, but I like adding this to my week. It’s real time and real talk. I don’t plan them, rarely have a script (unless it’s that lame index card that I finally threw out this weekend, I think?).  So have a quick look at my 3 minute “showing up for myself” vlog with pillows, as I hate on Charity because she’s so cute and always has a cup of chai in hand. I know, that face, it’s the best of the worst in bunch. Trust me. I’m a face maker.

Here are the links I mention in this post:

On sharing your blog posts to Instagram

On multitasking.

On creating or boosting your content/editorial calendar.

On batching your work (or in this case, social media posts.)

On Chai with Charity’s vlog series. See that mug? She’s so cute!
